Silicon Valley's theory that opposition to their infrastructure was fake suddenly had a villain with a flag.

Except [Darren Linvill at Clemson University actually looked at the accounts](https://www.businessinsider.com/x-chinese-bots-data-center-debate-no-engagement-followers-2026-8?ref=wire.fourthweb.ai). He used Clemson's platform that archives suspended X accounts, searched for an obscure hashtag the bots used, and checked for AI-generated images X had flagged. What he found: at least 59 of the "suspected" Chinese bots had zero followers. Zero engagement. They were posting into the void, likely killed by X's systems before a single human scrolled past them.

Here's what matters: the infrastructure fight in Texas is real. The tech industry wants to frame resistance as manufactured. It's a convenient story: if opposition is fake, you don't have to address it.
