And then there's the China angle. Hosting Z.ai's GLM-5.2 model on Mistral's platform introduces an interesting contradiction. European AI sovereignty advocates have spent two years arguing the continent needs indigenous AI to avoid dependence on American or Chinese tech. Now the flagship European AI company is platforming Chinese models. The charitable read: Mistral is building a neutral infrastructure layer that serves everyone. The cynical read: they need revenue to justify the infrastructure buildout and aren't picky about where it comes from.
